The War

1.       vilify - to make abusive statements [My parents vilify people they don’t like.]

2.       obliterate - to completely destroy [We obliterated our enemies with stink bombs and bad cheese.]

3.       stymie - to block an effort; to create difficulties [My efforts to create an adequate theme were stymied by my lack of interest in the project.

4.       mortify - to humiliate severely [I was mortified by the insult given in front of so many people.

5.       subjugate - to bring under control; conquer; subdue [In order to perform well, you must subjugate your fear of speaking in public.]

6.       suppress - to stop by putting an end to activities [Suppress the rebel activity!   Please try to suppress a burp when you are at the dinner table.]

7.       raze - to tear down; demolish [They razed the enemy’s hideout.]

8.       rout - to force or drive out; a disastrous defeat [Let’s rout the enemy, darn it.]

9.       usurp - to seize without legal fight [He usurped the crown, the throne, the queen, and the royal dog.]

10.       supplant - to replace by force [The old regime was supplanted by an ultraviolent faction of the opposing party.]

11.    plunder - to take something by force [Plundering is how armies historically supported themselves when making war in foreign lands.]

12.    pillage - to loot or plunder [The rioters pillaged the town, breaking many windows.]

13.    exploit - a heroic feat [His exploits are now famous]

14.    retaliate - to take revenge [She retaliated by putting gum in her brother’s hair.]
